Over the next few decades, the elderly population of the United States will expand exponentially, as the Baby Boomer generation ages. Though Social Security and other government programs have aided in sustaining the financial stability of Americans for the better part of a century, the system now lacks the necessary resources. In recent years, there has been growing discussion of filial responsibility statutes among legal scholars. However, these laws also come with the potential for a significant impact on Medicaid eligibility. This presentation provides an overview of filial responsibility laws and a review of the factors that relate to Medicaid estate planning. This course features streaming video and audio (as well as downloadable MP3 audio) presentations from a live CLE seminar by the Houston Bar Association (HBA) on May 29, 2015.

Some of the subjects for this course include:

  • Medicaid Estate Planning

  • Child's Legal Responsibility

  • Filial Responsibility

  • Social Security

  • Elderly Care and Responsibilty

Speaker: Christina Lesher, an attorney with the Law Office of Christina Lesher, P.C. in Houston. More information may be found on her firm's website.
