** available at any time of day and in time increments convenient to you through date referenced above **, together with the Houston Bar Association (HBA), are pleased to present a special online CLE program for all lawyers on a cutting edge topic applicable to all practice areas. Lawyers are being targeted because they house high value data in less secure, consolidated locations. Lawyers have a duty (ethically and statutorily) to protect client information. Notification statutes are forcing data breaches to become public knowledge. Simple, cost effective tools exist to increase data protection and prevent liability exposure. This course features an streaming video presentation from a live CLE seminar on this topic that was originally conducted by the Houston Bar Association (HBA) on August 23, 2013. You can access this presentation on demand at any time during the course of the seminar session.

Subjects to be discussed during this course include:

  • The Duty to Protect Client's Proprietary and Personal Information

  • Why Law Firms Are the Targets of Hackers

  • The Necessity of Encrypting Law Firms Servers, Hard Drives, Cellphones and Laptops.

  • New Legislation and Attorney General Notification Requirements for Breaches and Theft of Data

  • Penalties Facing Attorneys Who Fail To Protect Client Data
