Recent highly-publicized events show that sexual harassment in the workplace is far more extensive than was realized, even by seasoned civil rights and employment lawyers. We also see growing sensitivity and concern to harassment based on sexual orientation. This program will address: 1) the current state of Texas and Federal law concerning binary sexual harassment and 2) the legal struggle over recognition of sexual orientation harassment as a per se violation of Title VII. According to the "Lawyers Creed", attorneys have a fundamental obligation and are "entrusted by the people of Texas to preserve and improve our legal system." Inherent in that obligation is valuing the civil rights of our clients and our employees by avoiding sexual harassment and by treating all people with dignity and respect regardless of gender or sexual orientation.     A former naval officer, Stanley Santire, is the managing member of the Santire Law Firm, PLLC dealing with labor and employment issues, civil rights, construction, non-compete covenants, and trade secrets. Experienced in mediation, arbitration, trials, and appeals, he also served as Chief Legal Counsel for a Fortune 500 company with responsibility for a wide range of issues in Europe and the Middle East.
