This informative CLE program will provide an overview of the basics of general liability insurance, designed primarily for the litigator. Some of the topics addressed in this informative presentation include: the insurer's duty to defend versus its duty to indemnify, the three types of coverage under the typical general liability policy, to whom the coverage applies (including the limitations of Chapter 151, Texas Insurance Code), the most commonly used and litigated exclusions, issues regarding coverage for punitive damages, and Stowers (what it is and what it isn't). Speaker: Shelley Rogers, who is an attorney with the firm of Sheehy, Ware & Pappas, P.C. in Houston. Ms. Rogers is an insurance coverage lawyer. She has extensive experience in insurance coverage matters involving primary and excess/umbrella commercial general liability insurance and commercial auto liability coverage, including truckers’ auto liability. She is also experienced in the areas of commercial property insurance and personal lines coverages, including personal auto liability, uninsured/underinsured motorists’ coverage and homeowners’ liability coverage as well as professional liability and employer’s liability. Her clients include large and small Texas and foreign insurers, both admitted and surplus lines carriers. Most of her work is for insurers, but she has on occasion represented policyholders in negotiation and litigation with their insurers.
