Hon. Berta A. Mejia, who has served as the Director and Presiding Judge for the City of Houston Municipal Courts Judicial Department since 1998. Prior to her appointment to the Municipal Courts, Judge Mejia served as First Assistant City Attorney for the City of Houston Legal Department. Judge Mejia received her Juris Doctorate degree from Thurgood Marshall School of Law, Texas Southern University. She earned her Master degree from the University of Texas at San Antonio, and her Bachelor of Arts degree from Our Lady of the Lake University, San Antonio, Texas.
Her pervious judicial experience includes serving as Judge of the 315th District Court in Harris County presiding over felony juvenile matters, and as Associate Municipal Judge for several years while maintaining her private law practice. Judge Mejia serves on the Harris County Bail Bond Board, the Houston Galveston Area Council and the State's Office of Court Administration's Judicial Committee on Information Technology.
