    The speaker for this course is John Akard, Jr., who is an attorney with the firm of Coplen & Banks, P.C.  Education:  John received his B.B.A. in Accounting from Texas A&M University in 1988. He received his J.D. in 1994 from Texas Tech University where he graduated magna cum laude. John is also a Certified Public Accountant. Following law school, John worked for the Texas 14th District Court of Appeals as a briefing attorney to Justice Norman Lee. John is a member of the State Bar of Texas, the Houston and American Bar Associations, the American Association of Attorney-Certified Public Accountants (AAA-CPA, www.attorney-cpa.com) and Solos Supporting Solos (and ad hoc organization of solo practitioners, www.sososupportingsolos.org). As a very active member of the AAA-CPA, he served as a Board Member and President of the Texas Chapter. He has also been nominated to join the Executive Committee of AAA-CPA. In addition to the practice of law, John is an Independent Trustee of the Commonwealth International Series Trust which is made up of four (4) publicly traded mutual funds: Japan (CNJFX), Australia/New Zealand (CNZLX), Real Estate Securities (CNREX) and Global Funds (CNGLX) (www.commonwealthfunds.com).
