The speaker for this course is Mr. J. Alfred "Alf" Southerland, an attorney with the firm of Shellist | Lazarz | Slobin LLP in Houston. Mr. Southerland is board certified in Labor and Employment Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. He is admitted to practice in all state courts in Texas and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth and Tenth Circuits and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern, Northern, Southern and Western Districts of Texas. He is a member of the State Bar of Texas, Georgia Bar Association, American Bar Association, and the Houston Bar Association. He received his law degree from the University of Tennessee College of Law (J.D., with honors, 1986) and his undergraduate degree from the University of Tennessee (B.A., with high honors, 1983).
