CLEonline.com, together with the Austin Bar Association, are pleased to present a special online CLE program designed to provide important updates in the area of criminal law. This seminar features a streaming video and audio (as well as downloadable MP3 audio) presentation from a live CLE seminar on this topic that was originally conducted by the Austin Bar Association on February 27, 2015. You can access this presentation on demand at any time during the course of the seminar session. This course is accredited for 1.0 MCLE credit hours (0.25 in legal ethics).

The speaker for this course is Patricia Cummings. She is the Special Fields Bureau Chief and supervises the Conviction Integrity Unit (CIU) of the Dallas County District Attorney's Office. The CIU reviews and investigates cases where there is an allegation of actual innocence and/or a wrongful conviction and collaborates closely with innocence projects and local law enforcement agencies. The CIU has been responsible for exonerations in Dallas County since its establishment in 2007. The CIU also advises prosecutors regarding current cases and provides training to attorneys and law enforcement.

Patricia Cummings is a graduate of the University of Texas and the University of Houston Law Center. Patricia has practiced criminal law for almost 25 years. She began her career as a briefing attorney for the Eighth District Court of Appeals with plans to use the appellate experience as a foundation for pursuing a career in criminal trial. After leaving the court, she then went to work for the Williamson County Attorney's Office in Georgetown as the County Juvenile Prosecutor. Patricia transitioned into private practice where she focused her attention on criminal and juvenile defense. Patricia is certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in both juvenile and criminal law. From 2002 to 2014, she taught at the Criminal Defense Clinic at the University of Texas, School of Law. Cummings was named as one of the Top Winning Women Lawyers of 2014 by the Texas Lawyer and is AV Preeminant rated by Martindale Hubbell. Patricia has been named a Super Lawyer by Texas Monthly Magazine from 2008-2015. A more extensive biography for her may be found at the Dallas County District Attorney's Office website.
